Q&A

Flint Lighters

1. How to ignite the lighter?
To ignite the lighter, open the cap and turn the roller in the clockwise direction of the arrow.
2. How to extinct the lighter?
Close the cap and the gas nozzle will be closed, thus flame will automatically extinguish.
3. How to adjust the flame of the lighter?
Flame adjustment is done by turning the flame adjuster on the lighter bottom. Turning flame adjuster anti-clockwise towards the direction of " + " mark will increase the gas supply, making a higher and stronger flame. Turning flame adjuster in the direction of " - " mark will decrease the volume of gas supply, making a lower and weaker flame. Proper position of flame adjustment is where the flame height is between 25mm and 30mm.
Since the flame adjuster is equipped with a stopper, do not turn the adjuster forcibly over its stop position. When proper flame height can no longer be obtained, refill the lighter with gas fuel. As the gas fuel is composed of highly flammable pressurized gas, severe care must be taken in handling it. When refilling a lighter, follow the instructions for handling stated hereinafter on this sheet.
4. How to change the flint of the lighter?
In case of no more sparks can be obtained, even with the continuous turning of the roller, or the roller suddenly becomes too light, please replace the flint by a new one. Push the flint pusher in the direction of the arrow as illustrated until it comes to a stop, then insert a new flint in the open chamber and let go the flint pusher back to its original position. A new flint is now set ready.
5. How to refill the lighter?
Turn the lighter upside down and hold it firmly with one hand. Grasp a gas refill firmly and refill the gas vertically through the inlet valve of the lighter. Keep on pressing the gas refill for a few seconds, and the refilling is finished.
6. Why use CARAN D’ACHE / Windmill / Guy Laroche / GIVENCHY gas fuel and flint for the lighter?
Use CARAN D’ACHE / Windmill / Guy Laroche / GIVENCHY gas fuel for the lighter. High purity gas fuel can guarantee the quality of ignition effectively. The main functions of the lighter filter are to control the flame and to filter the gas from its impurities. Low purity gas fuel may damage the filter within a short period, causing your lighter unstable in flame, and in ignition.
CARAN D’ACHE / Windmill / Guy Laroche / GIVENCHY spark wheel is made of carbon steel and normally it can last about 5000 times. As a spark wheel is a consumable item, making a replacement after a long term use is a must. Using CARAN D’ACHE / Windmill / Guy Laroche / GIVENCHY flint can also guarantee the normal usage life of a spark wheel effectively.
7. Why gas fuel in the flint lighter exhausted so fast?
When the cap of a flint is open, gas will come out. Thus, except normal ignition, the frequent opening and closing of the cap of a flint lighter will, of course, cause a lot of gas exhaustion.
8. How to use the lighter safely?
  • Keep the lighter away from any open fire when refilling.
  • Keep the lighter away from fire, sunlight and heat over the temperature of 50°C.
  • Do not put the lighter into open fire. Keep the lighter out of reach of children.
  • When igniting, keep the lighter away from the face or clothes.
  • After refueling, wait for the re-igniting the lighter for a few minutes until the gas fuel that adhered onto the lighter body, the clothes or hand has completely dried out.
  • After refueling, it is safer to return the flame adjuster towards the minus (-) position before igniting the lighter; after igniting, adjust the flame to its proper height of 25mm – 30 mm.
  • Do not touch the combustion part directly as this is of delicate structure and finely adjusted.
  • Use the lighter for igniting cigarettes only; ensure the lighter is extinguished after use.
9. What note to take when using CARAN D’ACHE / Windmill / Guy Laroche / GIVENCHY flint lighter?
  • Take note of the condition of flint. Before the flint is going to finish, it has to be replaced by a new one. Ensure the flint to be used is fit to the flint chamber.
  • In case that no more sparks can be obtained, replace the flint by a new one at once; otherwise it may damage the spark wheel and the flint pusher.
  • The surface of the lighter is delicately made, so avoid hitting the lighter against any hard and sharp objects.
  • Always wipe the dust and sweat off the lighter with a soft and dry cotton cloth. Any acidic materials, even sweat, that attached on the lighter surface for a long time, the lighter surface may have colour turning, spots appearing and lacquer peeling.
  • Always clean the spark wheel and the gas nozzle of a flint lighter with a soft brush or a cotton stick. Never use alcohol to wipe the flint’s residual powder off the gas nozzle, for it will damage the inner tank of the lighter by a chemical reaction.
10. How to solve the common problems?
A. Unable to ignite
  • New lighter - After gas refilling, turn the flame adjuster anti-clockwise towards the direction of “+” mark and place the lighter horizontally on the table for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, the lighter is ready for ignition.
  • Old lighter – When a lighter is used for a long time, the lighter filter may be blocked by impurities, send the lighter to our repair centre for the change of a new filter.
B. Gas Leakage
  • Put the fully refilled tank into the water, and if bubbles appear, send the lighter to our repair centre for an inlet valve replacement.
  • When gas leaks out from the inlet valve after refueling, the lighter may be fully refilled already, and excess gas comes out naturally. It is a normal situation.
  • For the flint lighter, when the cap is open, gas comes out and be ready for the ignition. It is normal, not gas leakage.
C. Unable to refill gas fuel
  • Use a screw driver to press lightly on the inlet valve, to test whether gas fuel has been fully refilled. If yes, of course the lighter cannot be refilled any more.
  • If the inlet valve cannot return to its original position automatically after pressed, send the lighter to our repair centre to exchange for a new inlet valve.
D. Roller too tight or too loose
  • After inserting a new flint to the lighter, turn the roller several times until the roller goes smoothly.
  • The roller becomes loose when the flint is going to finish, then replace the flint.
E. Difficult to ignite
  • The spark wheel will be worn out after a long use, send the lighter to our repair centre for a new spark wheel.
  • The quality of flint may not be good enough; it is better to replace the flint with a new CARAN D’ACHE / Windmill / Guy Laroche / GIVENCHY flint.
  • For G3300 series lighter, a long spring is used to push the flint to the roller. If the flint is getting thinner, the spring may shift to a poor position. To adjust the spring position, draw out the thin old flint from the lighter, and replace a new flint.

Electronic Lighters

1. How to ignite the lighter?
Press the cap downward with your thumb until the sound of sparking is heard.
2. How to extinct the lighter?
Release the finger from the cap, the cap will return back to its original position automatically, and flame will extinguish at the same time.
3. How to adjust the flame of the lighter?
